Hello, just discovered this lovely community. Hope to see it more active!I am the EIC of my college newspaper (the SFCC Communicator)and have been scouring the web for ways to improve my and my staff's skills. My adviser pointed me to newsu.org and I have greatly enjoyed it.Some of the courses are really useful, especially the "clean your copy" one. I learned that I need to learn a lot more about grammar and such ;)Anyway, I'm glad I found this community. I was hoping there would be one dedicated to us crazy campus newspaper staff members. Are any of you in positions of power within your paper? This last quarter was my first quarter as EIC, and I would love to meet others in the same position. Also, how many of you are doing the conference in LA this March?-AugustYou can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org
I'm only assistant new editor, so I won't be going to the conference, bu there will be people from my paper, The Massachusetts Daily Collegian there.
assistant news...but...I spell reeeeaaaalll goooood. Cripes.
Cool! When the time gets closer, remind me and I'll make sure somebody from our staff trades papers with somebody from yours.Probably a stupid question given your newspaper's name, but are you a daily paper? We, sadly, are a twice-monthly, but I would love to do daily.
We are indeed daily. I go to UMass Amherst and we have a huge school and a big journalism department so we suck the lives...er, recruit from there.
I'm at a little community college, so we don't really have the resources for a weekly, much less a daily, but I would love to give it a try someday. My major goal for next quarter is to go from a Friday distribution to a Thursday...it's amazing how much hair-pulling something relatively simple is taking!
